On Friday 29th November the wintry skies around Newquay Cornwall will be lit up by a riot of colour from a magical lantern parade; the official ‘switch on’ of the town’s Christmas lights; and a glittering fireworks display over the harbour. Which is only minutes away from our self catering accommodation the Square and Tall House.

Over one hundred amazing creations and their makers will be setting off from Narrowcliff at 7pm for the parade to light up the skies, accompanied by a music from the Indian Queens Town Band and a local Samba Band. They will journey along Cliff Road and East Street where they will be joined by none other than Father Christmas and his real-life reindeer who will be entertaining children at the Hotel Victoria from 3pm to 6.30pm.

Joined by the town’s Mayor, the lantern parade will light up Bank Street & Fore Street, before reaching the bottom of Marcus Hill. Here the town’s Christmas lights will officially be switched on at 7.30pm to the sounds of glorious carol singing. The evening’s celebrations will then culminate with a festive fireworks display over the harbour at 8.45pm.

A brand new event for Newquay combining kite surfing and stand up paddle boarding at Watergate Bay. This is apparently a stand-alone competition and in the respect of BSUPA will not count towards any National Titles (not sure what that means). The competition format will consist of two individual competitions, with a one-day Kite wave and a one-day Stand Up Paddle Board wave. Competitors who have the suitable ability can enter both and challenge for the overall title ‘Legends of the Bay’. The schedule of events is very much weather dependent, There will be a Men’s Open and Women’s Open for both competitions. So should be well worth a visit if your staying in any of our accommodation in Newquay. Photos courtesy of Niel Wilkinson Photography.

The FNT Freeride Jetski tour is laanding at Fistral Beach in Newquay this weekend April 20 and 21 for round two of their UK tour. This has to be one of the most spectacular motorised water sports in the world and it's fast and very furious.

The riders are pitted man against man to “battle” against the elements and each other, trying to out score the opposition with the biggest manoeuvres they can , all this in the pumping surf break at Fistral Beach Newquay Cornwall, all just a 10 min walk from our accommodation.
